When ProfitCenter Software’s (PCS) parent company, Systemax Inc., evaluated packaged enterprise applications to automate their $1.6B direct marketing firm, they were ultimately unsuccessful finding a solution that could provide the desired efficiencies across the entire customer lifecycle.
The decision was made to dedicate the internal resources necessary to develop a solution based on their specific business requirements. As a leading catalog and direct marketing firm, the business requirements included a quote and order intensive sales process that requires the configuration of complex products and thousands of possible product permutations. The solution also needed to address an extremely high volume of daily sales transactions and the consolidating of traditional and web product, pricing and order data.
After deploying the finished product to Systemax’s various business units and witnessing how the product immediately impacted their bottom line, a decision was made to form ProfitCenter Software with the goal of marketing and selling our solution to those companies with similar business challenges. PCS was the ideal company formed to take this internally developed application and make the necessary enhancements to commercialize the solution.
Over the last 20 years, the business community has continually evolved its focus and emphasis regarding enterprise wide software applications. In the mid 1980’s ERP took center stage as companies prepared to integrate most of their core fulfillment & supply chain applications. Well known ERP companies attempted, with extremely mixed results, to shop and market a “one size fits all” approach to the problems.
In the late 1990’s CRM came on strong as the business emphasis shifted from fulfillment & supply chain to revenue generation. Regretfully, up to 50% of all CRM installations were abandoned or failed as implementations were complex and projects profusely bled resources, money and time.
All the while, companies have been struggling with how to successfully automate the management and processing of orders across numerous channels (web, direct sales, catalog, call center, retail, etc.). For too long, companies have maintained separate data sources for traditional and web product, pricing and order data.
Companies desperately need the functionality within ERP, CRM and Order Management software applications; they just need them completely integrated. Take CRM for example...Of what value is sales force automation without order management?
PCS’ mission was to build and deliver the first system that ties together all of the functionality you need to enhance profitability, while not paying for expensive modules, that while nice to have in theory, do not directly affect your company’s profitability and cash flow.
